Individual Therapy for Children, Teens and Women
Hi there! I’m Lisa Lee, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and I’m thrilled to be joining the team at Tidewater Therapy Collective!
I earned my Master’s degree in Counseling from Old Dominion University in 2005 and have 20 years of experience helping children, teens and parents as a school counselor, in addition to experience with teens and women as a clinician at Associated Counselors of Tidewater. In both the educational and clinical settings, I’ve had the privilege of empowering clients to overcome a wide range of challenges by helping build awareness, coping skills, resilience and recognition of their inner strengths.
My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and client-centered.. I believe the best work happens when you feel safe, respected, and genuinely heard. I tailor each session to your unique needs, drawing from a blend of evidence-based practices like CBT, solution-focused therapy, strengths-based counseling, humanistic approaches, and play therapy.
With Children (Ages 5+)
Whether a child is struggling with anxiety, behavioral challenges, or a life change like divorce or school stress, I create a positive, nurturing space where they feel accepted and understood. Children often communicate and learn through play before they have the words to express big emotions, which is where therapy can really help. In sessions it may appear we are simply playing with games, toys, and creating art; actually, this is how your child and I build rapport, practice feelings identification and coping in healthy ways, learn self-control strategies, executive functioning tools and social skills. I use creative, developmentally appropriate techniques, and to your child it just feels like fun!! My goal is to help children develop positive ways to express themselves, improve emotional regulation and build confidence from the inside out.
With Teens
Adolescence can be a time of major change—and often, major stress. I support teens as they work through anxiety, depression, identity questions, academic or peer pressure, family conflict, and life transitions (like moving schools, starting high school or college, or changes at home).
My work with teens centers on creating a space where they feel truly seen, respected, and free to express themselves without fear of being judged or “fixed.” Using CBT and strengths-based techniques, we may identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and practice coping skills like reframing or mindfulness/ relaxation techniques. Together we explore what’s going on beneath the surface, build emotional insight, and develop practical strategies for coping, communicating, and thriving. Most importantly, I strive to create a safe, inclusive, and affirming space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to grow.
With Women & Parents
Whether you’re navigating the complexities of parenthood, feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, struggling with self-esteem, or adjusting to a new season of life, I’m here to help you rediscover your strengths and feel more grounded. As both a mother and a therapist, I bring personal and professional insight as we will work together to manage stress, find balance, and set healthy boundaries—while also honoring the very real emotional labor that often goes unseen. I offer a compassionate, empowering space where you can process challenges, find clarity, and feel supported as both a person and a caregiver.
No matter what age you are, you don’t have to do it all alone—and you don’t have to have it all figured out before coming in.
My goal is to help you better understand yourself, manage what feels overwhelming, and create meaningful, lasting change at your own pace.
